This page will be devoted to reviews of some of our key events but a full review of all the events and reunions will be published in the Journal, next issue due out in 2013. OI Golf Meeting - Woodbridge Golf Course. Thursday 9th May 2013

Last year's winner of the Stuart Betts Trophy, Bryan Caley, presents the trophy to this year's winner, John Edwards.
Eight hardy OIs braved high winds and the constant threat of rain to play in this year's Stuart Betts meeting at Woodbridge Golf Club. Shyam Patel and Bryan Caley came second and third.

2013 OI London Dinner - Dartmouth House, Mayfair.
It was a great honour to welcome the Headmaster, former teacher and ex-MP, Derek Wyatt (our guest speaker) and over fifty OIs to Dartmouth House in the heart of Mayfair for this year's London Dinner. A fine meal served in equally splendid surroundings combined to create a memorable evening for all present.
Old Ipswichians spanning eight decades of school life shared reminiscences and conviviality, and were enteratined by Derek Wyatt and then by the Headmaster, whose account of just one week left everyone marvelling at the breadth of activities undertaken by current pupils.
Thank you to the OI committee, the Development Office and in particular to James Mansfield who all worked to ensure such an enjoyable evening.

2002 Leavers 10th Reunion - Drinks, BBQ and Croquet at the Pavilion report by Alastair Masser
2002 marked the 10th anniversary of their departure from the school with a BBQ and drinks event at the pavilion on Saturday 18th August. The event enjoyed an impressive turnout, supplemented by the long-lost but familiar faces of many who left the school on completion of their GCSEs in 2000.
Having picked seemingly the only sunny day this summer and with the spectre of Ray East nowhere to be seen, OIs waged an expansive croquet campaign on the school field, whilst those put off by John Fenning's ferocity with the mallet enjoyed a sumptuous BBQ courtesy of the OI Club. Rumours of a free lunch also led to the willing and much welcome attendance of some VIPs, notably Bob Clayton, Richard Welbourne and Jean Masser.
The event happened to conveniently coincide with the Ipswich Beer Festival, prompting a mass migration down to the docks, a journey which came to resemble a long walk down memory lane as the consensus quickly built that it would be rude to walk past the Arboretum without popping in. All those who attended would like to pay tribute to Lindy Hacker and Graham Papenfus for their hard work in organising what was a great day.

OI Golf meeting at Woodbridge Golf Club on Thursday 17th May, 2012
Eleven OIs managed to make the Stuart Betts Trophy Competition on May the 17th, 2012. On a dry, fresh Thursday afternoon the standard of golf was excellent. The greens (recently treated) were fast and true and fariways lush with grass after the recent record breaking amount of rain the area has endured. It was a lovely afternoon, with younger OI golfers mixing with the more established members of the OI Golf hierachy.
Congratulations to Bryan Caley for winning with 37 points, beating David Cordle in to second place on count back with Shyam Patel in third. A conversation took place during the quite sumptuous array of stunning sandwiches on offer from Woodbridge Golf Club about the situation with the Cups and Trophies – so please bring all to the next meeting at Purdis on the 5 July 2012, so the correct cups can be distributed to the correct winners for engraving and future competitions.

50th - 55th Reunion: Speech Day, Friday 18th May 2012
This year 50th - 55th Reunion was held for those who left the school 1957 - 1962. Forty-two OIs met at Ipswich Sports Club for drinks and lunch enjoying the opportunity to catch up with old friends, some after 40 years! After lunch everyone was taken to school where they were offered tours to see what changes have taken place since their time here, they visited the Archives and watched current pupils take part in Sports Day. The day ended with tea and cakes in the pavilion and a welcome from Nick Weaver, the Headmaster. All in all thoroughly enjoyable.

City Drinks: November 2011
Friday 25th November 2011 was the date for our London Social reunion which was held at The Warwick in Pimlico, owned by OI Artem Kravchenko. A good number of OI's turned up for the occasion and we hope that London Social events will become a regular date in the OI Calendar.
