Pupils in Year 1 and 2 are taught by Class Teachers in their classrooms for most of the curriculum, which is based upon the National Curriculum. The staff aim to give every girl and boy a first-class start to their education. Each child has the opportunity to learn in a happy, relaxed atmosphere which encourages the development of confidence as well as academic success.
There are two parallel classes in each year group and the children benefit from being in small classes. The children are taught by highly qualified staff who care for them as individuals and aim to meet their needs so that they can develop their full potential. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of the basic skills of numeracy and literacy in the context of a broad curriculum which encourages creativity and personal development. Practical learning experience is the basis of our curriculum.
In addition to English, Maths and Science, the curriculum includes History, Geography, Music, Religious Education, Drama, PE (including swimming), Art, Design Technology, ICT, French and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education). Lower Prep children benefit from specialist teaching in some subjects. In addition, visits are arranged to complement and enhance the curriculum and children can choose from a large variety of clubs.
